Begin with the building
The Sagrada Família is a basilica designed in large part by architect Antoni Gaudí. Its exterior is rich with sculptural detail, while the interior rises like a branching forest of columns. Construction has continued over generations, so the building and its surroundings may look different from one visit to the next.
Take time to compare the façades: the Nativity façade is full of detailed scenes, while the Passion façade has a markedly different, more angular expression. Inside, notice how the light through the stained glass changes the atmosphere across the space.
Planning your visit
Entry arrangements, opening times, ticket types and access to the towers can change. Check the official Sagrada Família website before making plans. If you want to go inside, review the available ticket options and the conditions for your chosen date directly with the basilica. Tower access can have separate restrictions.
This is an active place of worship as well as a major visitor site. Read the official visitor rules before arrival, including current guidance on clothing, security and permitted items. Allow time for entry checks and be considerate of people attending religious services.
Getting there
Sagrada Família metro station is close to the basilica. Check current routes and any service changes with Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). The surrounding streets are busy; agree on a meeting point if you are travelling as a group.
For step-free routes and accessibility arrangements inside the basilica, consult the official visitor information before setting out. This independent guide does not sell admission or speak for the basilica.
